Important: The ILP Preview in Courses shows the course template. It is not an individual learner's ILP. The learner-specific ILP is available from the learner's Program page.
How to open the ILP Preview
- Go to Courses
- Find the course you want to review
- Select Edit from the Actions menu
- Select the ILP Preview tab
The course's planned activities are displayed in chronological order across the duration of the programme.
Understanding the ILP
The main ILP area shows how the course is expected to be delivered.
Activities are grouped by month and, for each activity, you can see information including:
- activity name
- when the activity is scheduled
- Guided Learning Hours (GLH) assigned to the activity
- KSBs linked to the activity
- number of days permitted for the learner to complete the activity
This gives you a quick way to check whether learning is distributed appropriately throughout the programme rather than concentrated into particular periods.
The summary at the top of the ILP also shows information such as the course duration, number of activities, key dates and overall Guided Learning Hours.
Plan Validation
The Plan validation panel automatically checks the course template for potential issues.
This can highlight areas such as:
- Months where there are no planned activities
- Whether learner reviews are scheduled frequently enough
- KSBs that are not covered by any activity
- Activities that have no KSBs linked
- Whether the planned off-the-job hours add up correctly
Use this section as a quality check when building o reviewing a course. If an issue is identified, return to the relevant part of the course and make the required changes. The ILP Preview will then reflect the updated course plan.
KSB Coverage
The KSB coverage section provides an overview of how the Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours within the programme are covered by activities.
This is particularly useful for identifying:
- KSBs that are covered several times across the programme
- KSBs that have limited opportunities for evidence
- KSBs where no activity currently provides an opportunity for evidence
Where a KSB is shown as having 0 activities, you should review your course activities and decide where that KSB should be taught, developed, or evidenced.
Hours
The Hours section provides a summary of the planned off-the-job learning within the course. This includes information such as:
- Guided learning hours contained within activities
- Other planned off-the-job activity hours
- The remaining hours required within the programme
- Average planned hours across the duration of the course
Use this section to sense-check whether the overall learning plan contains sufficient planned learning and whether hours are distributed appropriately.
What should I use the ILP Preview for?
The ILP Preview is primary a review and quality-assurance tool.
Before using a course with learners, we recommend checkin that:
- activities are distributed appropriately across the programme
- the permitted completion times are realistic
- guided learning hours are correct
- all required KSBs have appropriate opportunities to be evidenced
- learner reviews are planned at the required intervals
- there are no outstanding issues within Plan validation
Changes to the ILP are made by updating the relevant course activities or course settings, rather than directly within the ILP Preview.
