Add Activities to a Skills Bootcamp Course

Last Update a year ago

Before you begin, ensure you have created the course, and added the competencies (Knowledge, Skills, Behaviours, and Others) to it, so that you can link these to the activities.

If you haven't already created the course and added the competencies to it, then check out the following articles first:

When you're ready to start adding activities, follow the steps below:

Step 1: Click Courses in the left-hand menu and locate the course that you want to add activities to.
Step 2: Click Edit in the Actions column.
Step 3: From the Edit Course window, click on the Activities tab.
Step 4: Click the + Add Activity button.
Step 5: Complete the Details tab on the + Add Activity pop-up (see table below for further guidance).
Field TypeDescription
TitleMandatory,
free text
Input the name of the activity.
UnitMandatory,
dropdown
Select the relevant Unit name (you will have created Units when you added your KSBOs) from the dropdown to link the KSBOs from that Unit to the activity.
Days PermittedMandatory,
number field
Input the number of days that this activity will be available to the learner to complete, e.g. 14.

Input the number of days after the start of the Skills Bootcamp Course, when this Activity will be available to the learner to complete.
See Note 1 below.

Select the type of activity, e.g. Assignment or Project Work, from the dropdown.
Additional InformationNon-mandatory,

Use this space to add information about the activity.
InstructionsMandatory,
free text
Use this space to outline exactly what the learner is expected to do, including any resources they should use (you will add resources on the Resources tab), tasks to complete, or evidence to upload. Well-written instructions will help the learner understand what’s required and complete the activity independently and confidently.
Guided Learning HoursNon-mandatory,
time field
Add the estimated time for this activity (when the learner completes the activity, the specified guided learning hours are automatically assigned to their record) and included in their off-the-job hours.
Delivery LocationNon-mandatory
dropdown
Select the location where this activity will be completed from, e.g. Employer Address, from the dropdown.
Employer Review?Non-mandatory,
checkbox
Tick this box if you'd like the employer to review the work completed by the learner.
Key Date?Non-mandatory,
checkbox
Tick this box if you'd like the activity to appear as a Key Date in the learner's Calendar.
Make DependentNon-mandatory,
dropdown multi-select
Set one or more existing activities as prerequisites. The learner will only be able to start this activity after they have submitted evidence against all selected dependent activities.
Note 1: When adding activities to a course, you’ll be asked to specify a Start Day for each activity. At this stage, the course does not have a Start Date - this only happens when a Learner is linked to the Course via a Cohort. So at this stage, the Start Day is simply a placeholder that represents how many days after the Learner's Start Date the activity will become available. For example, an activity with a Start Day of 5 will be visible to the Learner five days after their individual course Start Date.
Step 6: Select any links on the Resources tab by locating the resource(s) in the Available Resources (left) table - you can scroll through the list of resources, or use the 'Search Resource' filter to find a Resource by Name or Tag(s)), and dragging them across to the Selected Resources (right) table (see screenshot below).

Step 7: Select any relevant competencies (that you expect the learner to demonstrate when they submit their work for this activity) on the KSB tab by clicking on either the 'Select All' checkbox (to select all KSBs linked to the Unit), or click the dropdown(s) to display the linked KSBs and tick the relevant ones for this activity individually.

Note: If you see the message 'Please select a Unit to see KSBs' on the KSB Tab, please go back to the Details tab and select a Unit.
Step 8: Click Save.

Once you have clicked Save, your Activity will be listed in the table on the Activities page.

Conclusion:

Now that you've added the activity, continue adding more activities to the course by following these steps again.  For more tips and advice on how to build the course, why not check out the other articles in this Skills Bootcamp Courses category.
