Flight Path: Skills Review Calculation Example

How the platform calculates the score for a learner program.

Last Update 2 years ago

Following the completion of a review, a learner is given an overall score for their program. This score is calculated by comparing their actual progress against the expected progress to date for the apprenticeship program. This is then multiplied by a number of weightings.

This article explains how this score is calculated, and what determines the position of the individual program indicator on the progress chart (whether it is in the on track, intervention, or at risk zone).

Let's use a working example to demonstrate.

In this example we have set all of the Combined Score Element Weightings (these can be set in My Organisation > Flight Path) at 25%:

Combined Score ElementWeighting
Planned Hours25%
Submitted Evidence25%
Submitted Evidence - On Time25%
Competencies (KSBs)25%

Let's assume that a learner is part way through their apprenticeship program and we complete a review. The table below sets out the expected progress to date for each element (up to and including the day when the review is scheduled), and the actual progress to date which is captured and 'locked in' at the review. Each element is then scored as a Progress percentage.

ElementExpectedActualProgress
Planned Hours1005050%
Submitted Evidence4125%
Submitted Evidence - On Time400%
Competencies (KSBs)20630%

The platform then applies each of the weightings to the Progress scores above, to give an overall score for each element, and a total overall score, as follows:

ElementProgressWeightingOverall Score
Planned Hours50%25%12.5%
Submitted Evidence25%25%6.25%
Submitted Evidence - On Time0%25%0%
Competencies (KSBs)30%25%7.5%
Total Overall Score26.25%

We can see from the example above, that the total overall score following this particular review is 26.25%. As a result, the individual program indicator on the progress chart is plotted (on the vertical axis) in the relevant zone for this score, and (on the horizontal axis) to reflect where the learner is in time, against the planned program duration.

See https://support.rubitek.co.uk/article/flight-path-setting-progress-zone-thresholds for details of how to set the Progress Zone Thresholds.

Note that applying different weighting values will produce different overall score results as shown in the example below:

ElementProgressWeightingOverall Score
Planned Hours50%75%37.5%
Submitted Evidence25%15%3.75%
Submitted Evidence - On Time0%5%0%
Competencies (KSBs)30%5%1.5%
Total Score42.75%
